You’ll have selected your preferred shift time, length and role when you signed up. We’ll do our best to assign your preferred role but we can’t always guarantee this.
We’ll then be in touch four weeks before event day to confirm your shift and share all the information you'll need!

Don't forget to join the Facebook Group for your Trek26 event to keep up to date, meet the walkers who’ll be trekking, and get to know your fellow volunteers (you’ll find a link to the Facebook group in your welcome email).
What you'll be doing on the day
Rest stop volunteer
Our trekkers are taking on a huge challenge, so we love to give them as much support as possible along the route. There are three rest stops on our 26 mile route and one rest stop for our 13 mile route where you could be located on the day.
As a rest stop volunteer, you'll be:
- Guiding and cheering trekkers into the rest stop
- Chatting to trekkers and checking on their wellbeing
- Making hot drinks/filling water bottles
- Encourage trekkers to take snacks and lunches
- Explaining the next section of the route and offering encouragement

Route volunteer
Here you’ll provide support for trekkers out on the route. Especially at more difficult sections where a little encouragement can make a huge difference!
As a route volunteer, you'll be:
- Cheering trekkers out on the route
- Directing trekkers through tricky sections
- Helping trekkers navigate road crossings
- Explaining the next section of the route and offering encouragement
- Chatting to trekkers and checking on their wellbeing

Finish line volunteer
As trekkers return, you’ll ensure everyone experiences that epic finish line feeling whilst celebrating their incredible achievement!
As a finish line volunteer, you'll be:
- Cheering trekkers over the finish line
- Handing out well-deserved medals
- Popping bottles of prosecco (or soft drinks)
- Supporting with selling merchandise
- Taking photos of trekkers
- Chatting to trekkers and checking on their wellbeing

What to expect at Trek26
Arriving at your Trek26
On arrival you'll be greeted by your on the day contact who will check you in. They'll also provide a full briefing for your role and be on hand to support you throughout your shift. You’ll also be kitted out with a volunteer t-shirt and high-vis vest, to make sure you look the part!
Please note that some volunteer roles can be in more remote locations and parking may be limited. Please check your emails for more information about parking options.
During your shift
You'll get to meet your fellow volunteers and plenty of amazing trekkers as the day goes on. We encourage you to take regular breaks as needed, and will have a range of snacks and drinks available to help keep you going. There's also toilets available at all rest stops and the finish line.
Don't forget, your on the day contact will be available to support you throughout your shift. Make sure to let them know if you have any questions or concerns.
What to bring
- Comfortable clothing and footwear, suitable for being outdoors for the duration of your shift. Remember to check the weather forecast ahead of time and be prepared for all weather.
- Lunch and any dietary specific snacks/drinks
- A refillable water bottle
- A re-usable coffee mug
- Any medical aids needed for being outdoors (e.g. fold-away / camping chair)

When will my shift details be confirmed?
We'll be in touch 4 weeks before your event to confirm your shift details. We'll provide your role, shift time, arrival location, and all other information you'll need!
How can I change my shift details?
Please get in touch with us on events@alzheimers.org.uk if you need to change your shift preferences.
We will confirm your shift details four weeks before your event. After this, we will do our best to accommodate your request, however we cannot guarantee that your shift can be amended.
What should I do if I can no longer attend?
We understand that circumstances change and you may no longer be able to volunteer with us at Trek26. Please email us on events@azheimers.org.uk to let us know.
How do I receive my volunteer t-shirt?
We are no longer sending out t-shirts ahead of your Trek26. Please collect your volunteer t-shirt and high-vis vest on arrival, to make sure you look the part!
I haven't been contacted about my shift, what should I do?
You should have received a confirmation email after completing your registration. Please check the junk/spam folders of your inbox, as occasionally, our emails can end up in there.
We will then confirm your shift details four weeks before your event.
If you aren't able to find any communication from us, please get in touch to let us know, and we will look into this for you.
