Registration
When do registrations close?
Registrations for Trek26 will close two weeks before the event date, or when the event reaches capacity. We recommend signing up early to avoid any disappointment.
Can a friend or family member who isn't signed up walk with me?
No, we’re afraid not. Everyone taking part needs to be fully registered and fundraising to beat dementia.
Can I sign up as a team?
Absolutely! You can create your team when you register by clicking 'Create'. If you do this, you will be the Team Captain. When you register as a Team Captain, your team members will receive 30% off their registration fee when they sign up. Details of the discount will be supplied to the Team Captain upon registration.
To join an existing team, click on the ‘Find’ button and enter your team name or the name of the Team Captain. Every member of the team must complete their own registration form on our website.
Can I create or join a team after I've signed up?
Yes, it is possible to create a new team or join an existing team after you've completed your registration!
Please note, you’ll need to know the names and email addresses of everyone who will be part of your team, and all team members must be signed up before we can join you as a team.
Please get in touch with us on events@alzheimers.org.uk so we can check your record and help get your team set up properly. If you can’t quite remember whether you signed up as part of a team or not, we can confirm this for you when you get in touch.
Is there an age limit?
Yes. The minimum age limit for the Trek26 series is 14. All participants must be at least 14 on event day.
If you're under 18 you'll need an adult to take part with you, who also needs to sign up online and fundraise.
How do I cancel my place?
We understand that circumstances can change, and you may no longer be able to take part. Please email us on events@alzheimers.org.uk or call 0300 222 5808 to let us know. Please note your registration fee is non-refundable.
Can I transfer to a different Trek26?
To transfer your place to a different Trek26 event, please email us on events@alzheimers.org.uk or call 0300 222 5808. Please include the event you’re currently registered for, and the event you’d like to transfer to. Transfer requests are subject to availability.
How do I change my registration details?
If you need to change any details about your registration, such as your start time, dietary requirements, or any of your contact information, please email us on events@alzheimers.org.uk or call us on 0300 222 5808. Please note that start time changes are subject to availability.
Fundraising
How much do I need to raise?
We ask that everyone taking part in Trek26 commits to raising a minimum fundraising target. This is £300 for the 26 mile trek, or £200 for the 13 mile trek. Your fundraising target covers the cost of your place on the event, while ensuring we still have plenty of money left to help us get closer to a world without dementia.
How do I get my free trekking top?
If you smash your fundraising target one month before your event day we’ll send you out a free trekking top in the post. You don't need to get in touch to claim it - as long as you have hit your target on your JustGiving page or paid in cash donations, we'll send out your top automatically.
If you hit your target after the one month deadline you can still claim your free trekking top on the day. Please visit our merchandise tent.
If your top doesn't arrive for any reason, or you need to change the size, please visit our merchandise tent.
Can I fundraise as a team?
Absolutely! Your fundraising target is still £200 per person for the 13 mile route or £300 per person for the 26 mile route, but you're welcome to combine your targets into one team total.
If you need support setting up a team JustGiving page, please view this guidance.
How do I pay in my fundraising?
If you've set up a JustGiving page, then your donations will automatically be sent to us here at Alzheimer's Society, and there's nothing you need to do!
If you're collecting cash donations, you can get these to us a number of ways. It is not safe to send cash in the post. Please visit this webpage for more information.
Event day
What time does the trek start?
You will have selected your start or arrival time when registering for your trek. You can find your start time on your confirmation email from us.
Will there be parking available?
There will be plenty of parking available at your event hub, where you will start and finish your trek: Abbey Farm Showfield, East Cliff, Whitby, Scarborough, YO22 4JR.
Parking is free and no booking is required. Parking is not available overnight.
What are the toilet facilities?
There will be toilet facilities at the event hub where you start and finish your trek, as well as at each rest stop along the route.
What refreshments are provided?
We provide food, hot drinks, and water refill stations for every participant at Trek26. We aim to cater for a wide range of dietary requirements, and if you have included this in your registration form, this will be catered for.
A breakfast snack will be provided at the start line along with hot drinks for all participants. We will also provide lunch around the halfway point on your route. This will typically be a choice of a sandwich, wrap, pasta pot or salad.
There will be a large selection of snack bars, chocolate, fruit, crisps and sweets at your rest stops where you can help yourself!
What will I need to carry?
You will not be able to leave any personal items or bags at the event hub, so you will need to be able to carry all essential kit required for the challenge. Please check your kit list to be sure of everything you will need.
Make sure you have trained with your backpack, carrying everything you need, so that you are used to trekking with your bag at full weight.
What support will there be along the route?
Our fantastic route team are never far away at Trek26. They'll be out on the route, along with our medics should you need any help, a chat or a friendly face!
We also pop the event control number on your trekking number so you can always contact the team if you need to.
Our Trek26 routes are easy to follow. They're marked with bright arrows and mile markers, so there’s no chance of getting lost!
Can I run the route?
No. Trek26 is a fully supported walking event, with all timings planned based on walking speed. Running is not permitted to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants.
How long will it take?
This event is not a race. Everyone should be able to walk at a comfortable pace. Please note, in order for the event to be managed safely, there will be a cut-off time. We will communicate this cut-off time to you on the morning of your trek.
We estimate that most people will complete the 26 mile route in approximately 8-12 hours, and the 13 mile route in approximately 4-6 hours.
Can friends and family support me?
Yes, we encourage friends and family to come to the event hub to support you as you cross the finish line! However, we ask that friends and family do not visit rest stops along the route. Parking is limited at your rest stops, and must be reserved for event vehicles, volunteers and medical access.
Can I bring my dog?
Unfortunately, dogs are not permitted to take part in the trek due to safety issues and due to us trekking on privately owned land.
They are welcome to be on the event hub with friends and family but must be kept on a lead and the person looking after them is responsible for cleaning up any mess.
If you have a service dog, please contact us at events@alzheimers.org.uk.
What if the weather is bad?
The weather can be unpredictable, so it is important that you check the kit list and come prepared for all types of weather. In cases of extreme weather, such as thunderstorms, very high temperatures and extreme rainfall, we will check the route and may have to stop the event if the route is deemed unsafe and cannot be rerouted.
